The Rundfunkbeitrag (broadcasting fee) stays at €18.36 per month in 2026, i.e. €55.08 per quarter. It is charged per household — no matter how many people live there. If you receive certain benefits, you can be exempted or pay a reduced fee.

Broadcasting fee 2026: amount and payment

A planned increase is not in force for 2026. The fee is per dwelling — in a shared flat only one person pays for all.

Who can be exempted?

• Bürgergeld / basic income for jobseekers,
• basic security in old age or on reduced earning capacity,
• social assistance,
• BAföG (if not living with parents).

Who gets a reduction?

To one third — €6.12 per month — for people with a severe-disability card bearing the RF mark.

Second home

You do not pay twice. If you already pay the full fee for your main home, you can apply to be exempted for a second home.

How to apply

1. Apply online at the Beitragsservice (ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio).
2. Attach a current benefit notice as proof.
3. Exemption usually applies from the start of the benefit period.
