Accessibility statement
Topicdrill should work for everyone – including with a screen reader, keyboard or magnification.
Last updated: [date]
Draft: Details in yellow [brackets] are still missing (lib/legal.ts). Have the texts reviewed by a lawyer before launch.
1. Scope
This statement covers topicdrill.com in German and English, including the tools and the member area. We publish it voluntarily: as a free information service that doesn't conclude contracts with consumers online, we don't believe we fall under the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG). We still follow its requirements and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 as closely as we can.
2. Compliance status
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA (largely equivalent to EN 301 549). Based on our own review the website is partially compliant: most content meets the requirements, but the limitations listed below still exist.
3. What we do
- A clear heading structure, landmarks and a "skip to content" link
- Full keyboard operation with a visible focus
- Sufficient colour contrast in light and dark mode; content stays usable at 200% zoom
- Respect for the "reduce motion" system setting
- Alt text for informative images; tables with column and row headers
- Labelled form fields and understandable error messages
- Short, simple sentences; German terms explained; key content available in German and English
- Self-hosted fonts, no auto-playing video or sound
4. Known limitations
- Third-party ads: ads are served by Google in iframes. We can't control their content, contrast or labels. The consent dialog also comes from Google. Ad slots may reload after being visible for at least 30 seconds.
- AI illustrations: some AI-generated symbolic images don't yet have a meaningful description. They're decorative and don't contain any information that isn't also in the text.
- PDFs from authorities: some older PDFs we link to (e.g. forms or leaflets) aren't accessible. They're hosted by the authorities; where possible we link to accessible online versions instead.
- We don't currently offer content in Easy Language (Leichte Sprache) or sign language.
5. How we prepared this statement
This statement is based on a self-assessment using automated tests and manual checks (keyboard, screen reader, zoom) carried out on [date of review]. We review it whenever we make major changes to the site, and at least once a year.
6. Report a barrier
Found a barrier, or can't use some content? Email us at kontakt@topicdrill.com and, if you can, tell us the page and the assistive technology you use (e.g. screen reader, browser). We usually reply within a few working days and can send you content in an accessible format on request. Other ways to reach us are on our contact page.
FAQ
Q01Is Topicdrill legally required to be accessible?
As a free information service with no online sales, we don't believe we fall under Germany's Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG). We still aim for WCAG 2.2 Level AA voluntarily.
Q02Can I use Topicdrill with a keyboard only?
Yes. Navigation, menus, tools and FAQ sections all work with a keyboard and show a visible focus. A “skip to content” link takes you straight to the main content.
Q03Why are some ads not accessible?
Ads are served by Google in their own frames (iframes), and we have no control over what's inside. They're labelled “Advertisement” and you don't need them to use the site.
Q04How quickly will I hear back if I report a barrier?
We usually reply within a few working days. If you can't use some content, we'll send it to you in an accessible format on request.
