Cookie policy
Which cookies and browser storage we use, what for – and how you stay in control.

1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Local storage and similar technologies work in much the same way. Under German law the same rules apply to all of them: anything strictly necessary to run the site, or that you explicitly ask for, is allowed without consent (§ 25(2) TDDDG). Everything else needs your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
2. Your settings
On your first visit, Google's certified consent platform ("Privacy & messaging", IAB TCF v2.2) asks whether you allow cookies for advertising, analytics and marketing. Until you agree, Google Consent Mode v2 is set to "denied", and Microsoft Clarity and Bing UET are configured in Tag Manager to respect your choice too. Rejecting is just as easy as accepting.
You'll also find a "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent applies from then on. More on how each service processes data is in our privacy policy.
3. Categories
- Necessary: for security, login and storing your consent choice. No consent needed.
- Functional: features you use yourself (e.g. moving checklist progress). Stays in your browser, no consent needed.
- Advertising: cookies from Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager for serving and measuring ads and – depending on your choice – personalisation. Only with consent. Ad slots may reload after being visible for at least 30 seconds.
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity (heatmaps, session recordings) via Google Tag Manager – only with consent.
- Marketing: Microsoft Advertising (Bing UET) to measure whether visits came from Bing ads – only with consent.
4. Every cookie and storage entry at a glance
With your consent, ad partners in the TCF may set further cookies; you'll see the full partner list in the consent dialog. Google may change the names and lifetimes of its cookies.

You can view and delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time, or block cookies altogether. We'll then ask for your consent again on your next visit – and any moving checklist saved in your browser will be gone too.
FAQ
Q01Does Topicdrill still work if I reject all cookies?
Yes. All articles, city pages and tools work without advertising, analytics or marketing cookies. You'll just see non-personalised or limited ads.
Q02Why doesn't the moving checklist need consent?
Because storing it in your browser only provides a feature you asked for (§ 25(2) TDDDG). The data stays on your device and isn't sent to us.
Q03What is TCF v2.2?
IAB Europe's Transparency & Consent Framework is an industry standard for passing your consent choices to ad partners in a consistent way. We use Google's certified consent platform for it.
Q04How often will you ask for consent again?
Your choice is stored for up to 13 months. After that – or if you clear your cookies, or the partner list changes significantly – we'll ask again.
